Research Fellow: 1974-77. University of Kerala. Worked on 'Changes in integumentary structure and pattern in insects (Dysdercus cingulatus, Family Pyrrhocoridae) induced by hormone and by wound healing' at the Department of Zoology, University of Kerala, under the supervision of Prof. K.K.Nair and Dr.V.K.K.Prabhu.

Bombay Natural History Society: Research students working in the project for M Phil and Ph.D on birds and vegetation were assisted by me in planning and executing the programme and also in the data analysis and correction of the thesis; two students did Ph D on birds in the Bombay University and one in the Saurashtra University and one did M Phil on the Siberian Crane in the Bharathidasan University.

Research guide for M Phil and Ph D in the faculties of Zoology and Environmental Sciences in Bharathiar University, Coimbatore since 1994. Two students in Zoology (Ornithology): (a). one Ph. D. in 1998 on the "Bird communities of the thorn and dry deciduous forests in Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, S. India" (b). since 1999 for Ph. D. on the "Ecology of bird communities in the Anaikatty reserve forest, Coimbatore".

Guidance to students working on birds and wetlands from various universities, namely University of Calicut, M. G. Univ. Kottayam, Kerala Univ., Pondicerry Univ., Kerala Forest Res. Institute (ICFRE), Bombay Univ. and Bharathiar Univ.

Discussions on the priorities and programmes, preparation and editing of education materials. Also provide information for students and the public those who enquire regarding ornithology courses and bird-watching.

Discussion with people from various organizations on the facilities and expertise at SACON; providing necessary information on the findings of our studies, mainly on birds, plants etc.

Bird-watching and study training trips: Workshop participants/ trainees from various institutions.

Lectures to school and college teachers and students, industrialists, forest officials and other nature- lovers on: Birds and bird-watching, Wetland birds and their conservation, Bird conservation in the Western Ghats and Andaman Nicobar islands, Biodiversity and conservation..

Salim Ali Nature Club Network (for school teachers) at SACON. Prepared resource material on Birds and Bird-watching and took active role in conducting workshop, Field trip to Anamalai, Siruvani and Anaikatty Hills and Silent Valley; organising and conducting a Nature Camp at Silent Valley National Park for the science teachers.

Prepared a programme for environmental education on birds and wetlands concentrating on the Andaman Teal and had discussions with the Govt. officials and various other agencies working in Andamans ( SANE, ANET, CPREEC, CARI).

World Wetlands Day - 2 Feb. Coordination of programmes in the southern states.

World Bird-watch : (A programme of the BirdLife International, UK for popularizing bird -watching for the conservation of birds and their habitats): Contacting various bird-watchers (about 300) in different parts of the country for conducting the bird counts and other programmes in connection with this, mainly involving students and teachers. The response had been encouraging and it has been a regular feature since 1995. We also organize such trips to different parts in South India and in Andaman islands. Each year, a report is prepared and sent to BLI UK , NTT Japan and to the participants.

Indian Bird Conservation Network and Important Bird Area programme of the BNHS: collected information on the protected areas in the Andaman Nicobar islands and Tamil Nadu for the IBA programme, being the resource person for these regions; participation in the meetings and communication with the members.
